Mississippi, here we are

1 Aug

Yesterday, we arrived in Mississippi. Our first stop was to explore Edwards. Edwards used to be called Amsterdam. Back in the 19th Century, it existed but soon succumbed to a Cholera outbreak and the beginnings of the railroad.

Edwards is similar to Selma in that it’s another town that has fallen victim to the economic collapse. Back in the 60s, there were 9 groceries stores here. But with businesses leaving, folks not returning home, it isn’t what it once was. We met this woman, Nancy Duren, who knows lots and lots about the community. She drove us around and showed us all the places that used to be Amsterdam.

Tomorrow, we have plan to take a crop duster out over the tobacco fields.

More updates to come!
